Museums
Wilmington and the Beaches have a variety of museums to enjoy. There are exhibits and hands-on learning for children and adults interested in art, history, archaeology, marine science, local commerce, and railroads among other topics unique to the area.
In Wilmington, visitors spend hours at the Cameron Art Museum, Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, Wilmington’s Children’s Museum, and the Wilmington Railroad Museum.
In Wrightsville Beach, go back in history to relive the beach cottages at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History.
In Carolina Beach, see a cultural site inventory and cartographic review of Federal Point in lower New Hanover County, whereby 175 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites have been identified and locations mapped dating from before the Original Thirteen Colonies to the present at the Federal Point History Center.
In Kure Beach, learn about the ocean and its wondrous creatures at the famous Fort Fisher Aquarium and North Carolina Underwater Archaeology Center; and Civil War buffs should not miss the Fort Fisher State Historic Site.
